Dental examinations & check-ups

Making regular dental examinations and check-ups part of your routine is one of the best things you can do for your health. No one loves going to the dentist, but at Somersmiles, we make sure your visits are easy and comfortable.

New patients

New to Somersmiles?  We recommend all new patients begin their journey with a new patient examination. We offer a New Patient package which includes a comprehensive examination, full mouth x-rays, gum assessment, oral cancer screening, plus cleaning, for just $99.

During this appointment our oral health therapist will begin your appointment by doing two small x-rays either side of your mouth and a base chart of existing fillings . Our Oral health therapist will then clean your teeth and then one of our friendly Dentist will assess and recommend any additional dental work you might require and develop a treatment plan.

Children’s examinations

We are committed to make visiting the dentist a positive experience for all our patients, but particularly for children. At Somersmiles, we believe it’s important to get little ones familiar with visiting the dentist and to create positive associations which lead to good habits in adulthood.

We make sure to explain everything we are doing while turning the experience into an adventure – we take them for a ride in the chair, show them our amazing tooth tickler and polisher and send them home with a showbag.

At Somersmiles, we participate in the Medicare Child Benefits Dental Scheme, which means if you receive Family Tax Benefit A and B you may be eligible for $1000 per child to go towards your child’s dental treatment. We also only charge the Medicare rebate, so you will not be charged any out of pocket fees.

Dental check-ups

As they say, prevention is better than treatment. To safeguard your dental health and optimise your oral hygiene, we recommend everyone visit us every six months (or every three months in the case of gum disease) for a routine check-up and clean.

While a good brushing and flossing routine is an important part of maintaining good oral hygiene, over time, tartar inevitably builds up on your teeth which cannot be removed by brushing and flossing. This is why a regular visit to the hygienist is recommended for a professional clean. During this appointment your dentist will also check in to ensure your ongoing dental health.
